Introduction to our Cancun Trip

It was a spur-of-the-moment thing. We were talking to our friend Jessica, who had raved about her trip two years ago to Cancun. She, her husband Ray, her mother and their 3 kids - with a friend had visited Cancun for their 25th wedding anniversary. They had so much fun that Jessica wanted to return. Being a very well-traveled individual, when Jessica raves, we listened. Hummm. We like Mexico and are considering an extended trip there. We wanted to do something special to celebrate our own 25th. Mimi has always wanted to go to a luxury resort. I am very interested in PreColumbinan history. This would make a great "scouting trip" to see if our extended motorhome trip next year would be feasible.

So we asked - Would you mind if we "tagged along?" Jessica was fine with the idea. The trip was on !! Jessica is a semipro travel agent, taking groups of 40 teens around the world through the People to People program in the summer months. We promised to behave better than the teens. In the meanwhile, we took off for our trip to the Baja, and put this trip in the back of our minds, letting Jessica make the arrangements. It turned-out that Ray and the kids had other things to do, so the group consisted of Jessica, her mother, Setta, and an old friend, Jan. All great people.

We were still recovering from the Baja trip as this Cancun trip suddenly loomed in front of us. I'm finding that I need more time to "rest-up" and readjust than in my younger days. Sometimes we plan more activities than are good for us. The Cancun trip was no exception. The all-inclusive trip is air transportation to Cancun and all expenses at the hotel. Activities outside the hotel are extra. Since the hotel was affiliated with the Xcaret eco park, a one day admission to the park and night show was included. So the tab for the basic trip for both of us was $2700 - total for 7 days. The tab for our activities outside the park was about $700. Souvenirs, pictures, videos, etc. are extra.

We really packed it in !! Both of us had more fun than any other time in our lives. If you think of the best time in your life, multiply it by three, and you will understand. I ended-up taking a total of 700 pictures. I used two digital cameras - a semiprofessional reflex and a small point-and-shoot for back-up. Both have large capacity memory cards, No more film !! Hurray !

I'm using this blog to organize the trip journal and force me to pare down and process the pictures. It all goes on to a CD for posterity. So instead of the blog being a day-by-day journal of activities, I'm using each entry to introduce a seperate subject. Much easier that way. The blog subject entries wil be as follows:

Introduction (this entry)
Xcaret - Gran Flamenco Hotel
Xcaret at Night with Food and Drink
Delphinus - Swimming with the Dolphins
Tulum and Coba
Selvatica - Zip-lining and Cenote Swimming
Chichen-Itza
On the Road and Shopping
Xcaret Eco Park
Underwater Adventures
Xcaret Night Show

Wow !!

To be continued.......
