We are getting a little road weary. Today it's cooler, windy, and a nice day to hang around the motorhome. The main ceiling fan in the living room stopped working a few days ago, and placed itself on my repair list. It's important as the motorhome doesn't have very good ventilation - especially when it's hot. After getting on the roof and checking the wiring, I traced the problem back to a control panel on inside wall. I tugged and shorted some wires, and behold, the fan started working again. Stuffing all of the wire back into the wall, I declared the fan fixed (for now).
Stealth City
We are just beginning to explore Santa Fe. Looking at a map, I commented to Mimi that the streets look like a picture of a bowl of spaghetti. This observation was confirmed when some local literature quoted Will Rogers' description of Santa Fe, "It looks like it was mapped-out by a drunken cowboy riding backwards on a mule" Even my trusty GPS was having a tough time. It's screen would periodically start to spin around like the drunken cowboy as it tried to keep the route .
To make things worse, they must have tough zoning ordinances here. All structures are two stories or less, done in neutral or dark brown. Very few store signs, except small ones on the stores themselves. Makes it very difficult to find anything. On the positive side, you don't even feel like you are in a city.
This makes an interesting contrast with the countryside. As we left the city limits yesterday, billboards began popping-up, and large, white trailers littered the landscape. Native American decorating. They are not shy about lining the road with signs. Then as we re-entered Santa Fe later in the afternoon, the closer we got, the more the structures disappeared among the trees.
Weird, but nice.
