But first, we will spend the last day with our friends. We took a little trip to La Mesilla, a town adjacent to Las Cruces.
This is really the original town in the area, and was a major stop on the Butterfield Stage Coach line, which ran between St. Louis and San Francisco.
As with most Hispanic-background towns, this one has a nice square in the middle.
With vendors around the outer edge..
The actual stage stop was the La Posta Inn, now a restaurant and National Historic Landmark Site.
As we waited for seating for lunch, we roamed the internal courtyard, which had various types of parrots on display in large cages. They were pretty noisy, and we decided to order roast parrot tacos for lunch!
The bar had a beautiful stained glass window depicting a Butterfield Stage Coach in action.
Mimi and Connie had a good time going through the shops.
Tomorrow - The way to Santa Fe...
