We got off early today. Nine in the morning is good for us. We left at 8:15. We decided to spend last night in the motorhome - mainly to give the cats a head start in adjusting to their new surroundings. They get very upset the first day on the road. That strategy seemed to work, and as we left San Diego, they were pretty quiet.
Made Yuma by 11:30, and immediately stopped to fill-up with gas. It's about $.40 a gallon cheaper in Arizona. Even though San Diego has been socked-in by cold and clouds, once we were in the desert it was very warm and windy. A pleasant change. As we tooled along past Yuma, a State Police car zoomed ahead of us. Ten minutes later, we came across and accident in the opposite lanes. One car with damage to the side, another - a mini van looked as if it had rolled and rolled along the highway, strewing personal belongings. Then, a body, covered in a white sheet - right in the middle of the highway. His toes pointed directly upward, where the vultures circled. A sobering sight indeed.
Mimi speculated that it was a illegal who was running from a checkpoint further down the road. To me, it looked like one guy who was just returning to San Diego from business in Phoenix - front tire blew and he lost conrtrol. Guess we'll never know.
Now we are now in Casa Grande, at the Escapees Park. We're "roughing it" tonight - no hookups. It's 7 pm and still 85 degrees inside! Hope we get some cool night weather.
Tomorrow - Tucson.
